Elizabeth's life
Elizabeth Lafantaisie (1970's)
Elizabeth was a beautiful person inside and out, always dressed like a princess. People used to say she looked like a million bucks.
She married Arthur Paquette in 1954 and they had four children together. They separated in 1974. During that period of her life, she spent a lot of time at home alone with her four children, two of which were sick with Cystic Fibrosis. One of her daughters, France passed away at 14 years old from the disease in 1975.
Elizabeth worked at St. Amant Centre until her retirement in 2005.
She was a great cook, known for her delicious meat pies and her French cinnamon rolls called "petes-de-soeurs" and loved to help others. She took pride in her cleaning abilities and would often tell us about the houses she cleaned and how she made things shine. Elizabeth was known for her contagious laugh. It was so loud (and sometimes rather embarrassing) but now we would do anything to hear her laugh again.

In 1980, her 3½ week old grandson Réal (Lise's son) passed away suddenly and in 1990 her daughter Lise was struck with Leukemia and needed a Bone Marrow Transplant in Vancouver. Then, in 2004 her daughter Anna, with Cystic Fibrosis, survived a double-lung transplant. |
Elizabeth was always by her family's side through thick and thin. Her family was her life. She would often help with daily chores, babysitting her grandchildren and would regularly touch base or visit her son Mitch and his family, who live in BC.
Her faith in God is what gave her strength and confidence. She read her bible every night, said her rosary every day and even carried it with her everywhere she went (including during her last hour). She has been on three pilgrimages to Medugorje in Croatia, and when she would return from those trips, we saw the passion in her eyes and the glow in her face from the growth of her faith. She never missed the yearly pilgrimage and the mass for the sick.

She was loved by a lot of people and she truly loved those who loved her! Her children, her sons-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and grand pups were her pride and joy. She would have given the shirt off her back to help at any time.
Elizabeth was very special to all of us. We are so blessed to have so many great memories of her, including her tight hugs and her loud laughs. She was supposed to be with us for many more years. She recently missed three of her grandchildrens' weddings and the birth of three great-grandchildren. We love you, Memère. You will never be forgotten. Click here to know What Happened. |
